Do boys get laughed at if they do ballet?

Yes, some are, but there is a bright side. I'm assuming you are still in school, do you like the actor Patrick Swayze? If so, then you know he is a man's man, yet his parents were both well known ballet dancers who taught him to dance ballet at a very early age. Don't let the opinions of your peers stop you from going after your dreams. Good Luck.

Well, some of them do. Others, though, become famous and successful, like Baryshnikov.
If they are of school age then unfortunatly there will be those who laugh. However this shouldn't put the person in question of as children are the cruelest creatures and in a few years their laughter will be meaningless.
some, inless they have good friends and parents

Anyone got a clue where to get colourful ballet pointe pumps??musicals

Buy white shoes or light pink shoes and dye them. You can do it yourself, or you can take them to a dance shoe store and ask them to do it for you. You can find fabric dye at a supermarket in the laundry section, or in crafts store, or on the website below. They also have instructions on how to dye satin shoes.

make sure when you stretch that you put extra time into the aches on your feet or you can get dull cramps in them when doing releves. this problem is fairly common because the foot does not bend that way on a normal basis. keep it stretched and keep it healthy. good luck!

maybe go easy on it. i have been dancing for a while, and sometimes you will get aches in your achilles while doing releves. i would just go for a lower releve so you have less aching. if it doesnt get better rap hot rags around your ankle to soothe. and if that doesnt work, go to a doctor.

I go to a small ballet school, and every once in a while some of our most advanced dancers go take classes at the Joffrey Ballet Company. I think that since they are a professional company, most of their classes would be master classes. If you plan on taking a master class, you should be very picky about your dancing and before you plan to go in there and take a class, because I've heard from my teacher that they won't pay much attention to dancers who don't follow very specific directions, etc. For example, if they tell you to do a step at the bar, without arms, and you're used to doing it with arms, get used to doing what they say and not using your arms. If it's ur first time going to a master class, it's okay to not feel as comfortable, you'll probably get more used to it if you go to more master classes.

It depends on how dedicated you are to it. If you practice and really work at it, do what a coach says, it all will still depend on how much you want it. But don't forget you still need to be a kid and have friends, get school work and enjoy family time.

What is the most difficult thing about dancing ballet?

The movements? The learning process?

For those that are ballerina dancers, what were some of the most challenging things you faced? Thanks~

What is the most difficult thing about dancing ballet?the grand theater

I would say staying motivated. Sometimes class can get mundane and seem boring. My professors used to tell me to pretend I was performing no matter what so that I would always remember why I was there and keep myself motivated. It is important to remember why you dance, don't you agree? and sometimes that can be the most difficult thing about dancing...staying motivated even through the tough times.

What is the most difficult thing about dancing ballet?soap opera opera theater

dancing ballet.
because the movements require certain muscle

development it is very difficult for a child above 6 or 8

to learn. and almost impossible for someone in their

teens or an adult to learn to do the moves correctly.
I think the most difficult thing about dancing ballet is,the movements because if you don't get them right then some people will use that against you.
the most challenging thing about dance ingeneral is the strain on your muscles and bones... especially if you are en pointe a lot!! try working out and stretching on a regular basis to build up muscles!!
i say ballence and the movements (which, to me, goes hand in hand). being a ballerina, i would have to say that the most challenging things i've faced would be:breaking my toe during a ballet lesson (lol), learning new complex movements, and working on my arches (pointe...which i'm still working on, slowly but surley)
i think keeping your lines straight without leaning, and the muscle strain on your legs and feet
balance
The most difficult thing about ballet for me was trying to keep my posture tight. i would always forget and let my back arch but then my turn out would leave and my arms would bend to far back to compensate. you have to have train your body to keep its stomach up and under so that when you dance posture comes naturally and you can think about the different steps.
I think the hardest part of ballet is the work you do with your brain.

You literally have to think of everything at once:

"Bum tucked, tummy in, legs stretched, feet turned out, shoulders level and head poised. Nicely done, girls. We can now start our pli茅s."

You get the drift...
ballet is difficult b/c it takes years of training to acheive good body alignment, strength and flexibility....and then you must maintain it . not to mention learning the terms/positions/movements.. pointe is even more demanding on the body and feet and many dancers stop there.
uh...probably learning to turn out my hips and teaching my brain to automatically keep my ankle straight instead of curved in....like while doing passe. There's a lot to think about. You teach your body over time to do a lot of things without thinking, for example I always have my foot pointed and turned out when its in the air...it just comes natural.

Hips in line, legs tight, toes pointed, legs turned out, arms curved, thumbs tucked down, back straight, shoulders down, balance, smile....it's a lot to make your body memorize, took me a while to get them all down.
it depends on the skill of how well u dance.and how well in shape u are in because about last week i was doing a stretch and i was coming out of a back arabesque and rotating into a back attitude and my knee kept popping and it poped out of place and poped back in and now i have to get well and i haven't had ballet class all week.so be careful and take care of your body
Ever see Dom Deluise with a tutu dance with Roseanne in the NUT Cracker?
i think standing on ur toes i mean i have no problem but the toes and the humiliation not that i would make fun of u if u do it but other people think its too girly girl but i love it
The movements and the names and get my leg up high enough
In ballet i would say developing thick skin.

You take a lot of emotional knocks, and if you arent tough you will not make it.

We may look delicate but we are soooooo strong in mind as well as body.

WE HAVE TO BE
My major problem in ballet is turn out. I can't really feel the difference between turning out and not turning out for some reason, so my ballet teacher has to help me a lot. It is especially hard when you start dancing faster and have to apply turnout to every step.
Dance is all about Movements
when i first started, co-ordanating now, stretching and remembering all of my points, postiure and dance routine, strecthed feet, ect. all at once
The most difficult thing about ballet is the posture. it might sound easy but is really not.

I am a ballerina and I've been dancing ballet for 12 years. I also dance other styles of dance like contemporary, lyrical and jazz. The most challenging thing that I have faced were pirouettes. I practiced a lot every day 2 hours of pirouettes. And i know if you practice you could be perfect. In the beginning I could barely do 2 pirouettes but now I can do up to 5. I only have one thing too say. JUST PRACTICE EVERY DAY and Believe in yourself.
Initially I think what was most difficult for me was not only balancing and posture but strengthening my core muscles and toes so that I wasn't in pain all the time......wish I had stuck with it though.

Do you know how to sew the the ballet shoes??????

Elastic on the ballet shoes should be sewn on the same way as on pointe shoes. While some people will just sew the elastic straight across the top of the foot, this does little to hold the shoe on properly. One way to sew on the elastics is to first fold down the heel of the shoe and flatten it out. Trace the seam the fold makes from the inside of the shoe. It should be a semi-circle. Use this as a guide to sewing on your elastic. In some cases, companies will teach their pre pointe students to sew ribbons onto their ballet shoes as well. This gets them used to sewing the ribbons, working in a shoe with ribbons on, and tying them on as well. Practicing your sewing on a pair of ballet shoes is much better than making mistakes on a new pair of pointe shoes.

Another way to sew on your elastics that is popular with male dancers is to cross the elastics. You simply need two pieces of elastic, and just sew them across the top of the shoe in an "X" shape. This is a good idea if you have tapered feet. This technique can also be used on pointe shoes, especially with shoes that do not have a drawstring, such as Grishko's. Like I mentioned before, Sansha ballet shoes come with one side of the elastic already sewn. The elastic is placed so that you can cross the elastics. It's also better when trying the shoe on because you can tie the elastic on to get an idea of how the shoe is going to fit once sewn.

Do you know how to sew the the ballet shoes??????star theater

Fold the back of them down mark where the fold stops and then sew the straps there.

Do you know how to sew the the ballet shoes??????extension opera theater

If they are regular flat shoes then you just cross the elastic over ur foot and adjust it so it's comfortable. If ur dealing with pointe shoes i am really sorry. they r a pain!!! i cross my elastics like with the flats and sew the ribbons about an inch from the seam in the back.

Absolutely! The best (most efficient) workout would be swimming. It targets all of your muscles. With how strong you are from ballet, you'd be great at it! : )
No matter what work out you do, your body will never be the same. Staying fit and having the body of a dancer are two completely different things. I still miss mine and was never appeased even after extensive weight training, swimming and running.
nothing can keep you in shape like ballet! but you can still keep the tone without ballet!

well i don't know for sure but they will probably see how well you can catch on with a class and what are you skills, strenghths, and so on. they will give you a dance that you will have to perform. just do your best and most of all be yourself, but carry yourself as a ballet dancer who knows he or she will be accepted. if not it is their loss. good luck.

What does an audition to get into a ballet school consist of?opera singer opera theater

It depends on the school you are auditioning for. That basically determines the difficulty of the audition and what it will consist of. Generally, it's a class just with a panel of judges who are there to place you according to level. Of course go to the audition ready to learn and with a positive attitude. There is typically a fee associated as well as paperwork prior to you actually beginning. Make sure you arrive about 1 1/2- 2 hours early and keep an open mind. Keep your head up and good luck!

Is 19 considered to old to start learning ballet, i ask because i know many dancers start at a very

When a child starts dancing classes it is much easier for them because their bones and muscles are still supple and forming. As you age, your muscles and bones become stiffer and take a little extra effort to make them stretch and do the things a ballet dancer needs to do. At 19 you are not to old to start but just be patient with yourself because your muscles, joints and bones will have to get used to be stretched and moved into positions they have never been in.

Is 19 considered to old to start learning ballet, i ask because i know many dancers start at a very young age?phantom of the opera

It's probably to old for a carrier but not just to learn for fun or fitness. It will put you in great shape.

Is 19 considered to old to start learning ballet, i ask because i know many dancers start at a very young age?listen to opera opera theater

You can begin dancing whenever. Even though it is easier to begin dancing younger so that you can build up strength, it is still OK to start at an older age and work your way up. I hope it works out for you. Good Luck!
You may never be as good as someone who began learning at a very young age, but if you are in good shape and very dedicated, even if you have no dance background, you can definitely learn. It is a lot easier for young children to learn things like dance and music than it is for adults, but that doesn't mean you can't learn! Good luck!
Overall it is but if you have the ability you can do well. It is rare, but some pro dancers started late, and made a career. Give it a go anyway - it will be great for your physique, and fun.
yes 19 is too old because your feet have already formed so ballet would be very hard and ..sorry but you'd probably be lowest in your class because of the whole feet thing...sorry i wanted to also but ya know i didnt start young.
if you want to pursue a career in it than yes, its probably too late. But if you want to do it for fun than no, its not. Most people begin dancing at around 4 years old, but if you are willing to work hard and commit than you shouldn't have a problem. Before you start though, get really flexible. do yoga, stretches, and practice your splits. And also, brush up on the basics before you start. There is a book called "step-by-step ballet class" by the royal academy of dancing. I'm not sure where to find it but you could look on amazon or e-bay. anyway, it shows you the basics and once you complete the first few levels you should be ready for ballet class. good luck!!!
It's too old if you would want to perform professionally, but not too old if you want to learn for fun or exercise. A lot of places offer dance classes targeted at beginner adults.
It depends on what you're going to use it as. Starting at 19 you're never going to be a "prima ballerina" in New York. So not as a career. But if it's just for fun, go for it! You can dance at any age, and it keeps you in great shape. If you've never danced before, though, Modern Dance (like Martha Graham) might be easier to learn, because you don't have to learn how to turn out. But it's up to you. C=
19 is too old to start dancing and hope to be a ballerina in a company. But it's not too old to learn how to dance for fun and fitness.

You're right most people start dancing when they're 4. I like you, started for the first time when I was 18. I started pointe when I was 20. I realize that i'm too old to be a professional, but I like the skills I have learned.

I think you should take a class and take it as far as you want. You'll be glad you did and it will be better than wondering what if.

If you plan to start in the fall you should start stretching now. Learn as much as you can too, it'll make it easier. I suggest a book called "The Dancer's Companion" by Eliza Minden. It's great for adult beginners.

Good Luck
You are right, I even started when I was three. But it's never too late to start when you work hard at what you want to do. It may be harder for you at first. But something you can do is streatch everyday. That way you will at least become flexible when you begin.

EX: sit on the floor and spread your legs apart to your sides. Then reach forward and try to touch your head or chest to the ground without your toes rolling forward.

OR

You can put your legs in front of you strait. and try to touch your toes and put your head on your knees.
do it! it will be fun. your not going to be with the people your age who started when they were two, and your not going to be with 5 year olds. you will be in a class with people your age and with your ability. might be to late for a career, but never too late to learn it!
to be a professional dancer yeah you probably are too old but it's great exercise and you never know you might be able to turn pro if you work really hard and practise as much as you can don't start lessons if you're not dedicated to it though
It is never too late to start learning ballet. Just don't expect to make a professional career out of it.
You not too young too start ballet, I don't know why everyone says that lol!

What age should I start my daughter in ballet?

First of all, I think it is great you want to expose your daughter to the wonderful art of dance. I have been a dancer for 18 years and teaching for 6. We allow childeren as young as 2 to enroll, as long as they are potty trained. This is not always a great idea because some childern are not metally ready to be in a classroom setting. You have to understand at this very young age your daughter is still a baby. Also, pre-school ballet class is more social developement and dress up than a serious study of the art. Most importantly of all, your daughter should show intrest in dance and want to go to class. If she does not show intrest on her own, DON'T PUSH HER. That is the worst thing you can do because she may actually develope a feeling of resentment and anxiety toward ballet and even you. If your child doesn't show intrest right now, that's ok. Wait untill SHE is ready. Remember you can encourage without being overbearing and pushy.

So, if your daughter is over the age of 2, potty trained, and showing intrest in dance, you are ready to choose a school. I recommend going with your daughter to studios to watch a class. Let her see what it is all about. A good school will let you observe or audit a class. Like I said, at this stage it is more of a social developement, but it is also an introduction to school. Learing to follow instrustions, listen, and be away from mom and dad. I like to sing (and sign) ABC's with my students as well as other fun leaning activities. It should be more fun than work. Remember, 2-4 year olds are still babies with very small attention spans. Choose a smaller class for more individual attention. I recommend starting out with one 30 min. class. This allows your child to be away from you only a short period of time and she will not get over stimulated. Then add another 30 min. class each year. Lastly, remember that dance classes can be expensive. Along with monthly tuition, there are tights, shoes, leotards, tutus, dance bags, recital fees, and costume deposites. Be sure to ask the studios about all these costs.

I hope you and your daughter have a wonderful dance experience and the she grows up to be a beautiful and graceful professional ballerina. GOOD LUCK!!!

Some parents have started their youngsters since the age of 2 in ballet. You should inform yourself at the school what is the youngest age they will register a child.

What age should I start my daughter in ballet?city opera opera theater

When she is able to follow instructions about age 4.
Ideal age is 4. Some start earlier, but they still cannot follow orders as easily.
I didn't start dancing until I was in 4th grade and I think that really hurt my dance abilities because many other girls that were a year or two younger than me were more advanced because they started to dance early.

Many of those girls started between ages 3 and 5. You could start at 3, but I think 4 or even 5 would be better. If your daughter seems like she is ready at 4 then send her but age 5 I think would be a great age to start as well.
My mom put me in when I was 2 and a half because I pestered her constantly about wanting it. 3 or 4 seems to be pretty standard though.

BTW, I stayed in for 16 years.
3yr. the earlier the better, Gymastics would be good to do as well, this way it is much easier on her as far as being more limber.Hope this helps.
whatever age she realizes she wants to do it!
Whenever you think she is ready %26amp; can dance with other little girls. I started when I was 3! If she likes it, keep her in it. She may turn out to be a great dancer somday. A lot of kids just want to play cmputer games %26amp; watch TV...but ballet keeps you in shape, learn dicipline %26amp; respect.
It's best to start at 3-4 soo that way she doesn't have to face embaressment if she starts old enough to know what embarressment is. But, try to start as soon as possible, so that way if you ever move she can get into another dance school because of her years of experiance!
The best age is 7, because at that age she'll start to understand better, and I think that 4 is a little bit too early, she doesn't have time to dance that's her time to play. At age 7 her bones start to develop. It is better b/c it helps with her flexibilities. And if your daughter is at this age it's great because when she'll grow up she will look more natural and better then everybody else. Good Luck!!!
Whenever she feels comfortable and she can socialize good with other kids. I would say around 3 but usually 4 or 5 is better because they can handle more things and listen and take directions better. I started at 2 and a half and I did fine but every child is different.....enrolling her in other things like Gymnastics and tumbling would help too. It all depends on the child and he/she's comfort level also when the studio says she is allowed to enroll Hope I helped!
I started at age 4, and I loved it. I'm stilkl dancing today. Younger than 3 or 4 kids can't usually follow instructions as well, so 4 is an ideal age. 3 would be okay too, if you think she's ready for it.
the sooner the better, i would say around the age of 4 would be good. i think any younger than that is a little bit too young. whenever she can take direction and can try to stay focused.
Most places will start them by the age of 3, you have to judge your own child. Some are ready by then; some are not. Maybe try a Mommy(or Daddy) and me class so you can see how your child does and then enroll her in a class.

Giddy anticipation before. A sweet, poignant wistfulness after.

What do you feel like before and after ballet class?passions soap opera opera theater

Before class would begin; I was excited to be with my friends but after class all I wanted to do was eat.
Before ballet I feel stiff and sort of cold and after I feel relaxed, worked out and energized.
before ballet class sometimes i'm really excited and looking forward to the class, where other days i would rather be at home sleeping!!! after class i normally feel sore and tired. but i also feel good about the class. =)
Before class I watch the last part of the 3-4 year old class and they are SO adorable in their little skirts and tutus. It always reminds me of when was their age in the same room, using the same barre. I feel excited and confident. And after class I feel a lot more awake and usually I go home and stretch some more. A lot of the time I wish the class was longer.
it felt good.. i guess. it's been awhile since i've done it.
before normal after tired
it depends...if we are doing choreography im ready to go at any time and i cant wait for class to start...while i like going to technique class, sometimes i just feel like i dont want to go at all...but after class i feel great because i love to dance!
Before I feel tired and afterwards I feel revived and energetic!
before i feel normal. after i feel empowered! it makes you want to get up and do something!
before I either feel tired,or energetic(depending on the way my day has gone before that)after I feel sweaty, but really happy I went and I feel like I've accomplished something when the teacher comments on how hard I worked that day.

Ana Pavlova is prolly the most famous. Galina Ulanova was also pretty famous. I really dont think Atlanta Grace is Russian. Her name sounds extremely American.

Do you have to do character dance in ballet?

To proceed on to higher levels such as pointe.

Do you have to do character dance in ballet?lyric opera

Character dance is part of a complete ballet training program if you were aiming to dance professionally or even in local, civic ballet companies. Not all female parts in a ballet production are going to be en pointe, so why limit yourself to what roles you could perform by not learning character dance?

Do you have to do character dance in ballet?imax theater opera theater

Not necessarily...to go en pointe, you need strength, technique, and ability. Character dancing really has nothing to do with it.
No, but as Janine said it is still good to do. Character is used in Ballet Exams such as RAD and Checcetti.

I really enjoy it, after doing ballet exerices and bar work you look forward to it!

Hope this helps :)

ribbons sometimes elastic
this is simple. u will notive that there is an elastic drawstring going around your foot, that is where i perfer to sew. now you want your two pieces of elastic to be near your angle. they should both be criss cross. also ive always heard if u fold the shoe over, where the crease is, is where u should show.

WHAT DO you think of a man who dance ballet?

He's stronger and in better shape than I am. To the guy that said "gay", ask Mikhail Barishnikov about it. Dancing ballet is incredibly athletic. If you don't believe me, try toe dancing with 3 foot leaps for 3 hours and see if you can do it. My guess is that you probably couldn't do it if your life depended on it.

they have incredible bodies... but I think most of them are gay or womanizers...
If no man danced ballet then there would be just women up on that stage, and how well would a production of "The Nutcracker Suite" be if that happened?
Sexy and in good shape...not always gay. Look at Barisnakov (he even had a part as Kerry's boyfriend on Sex %26amp; the City).
super-athlete
Buns of steel.
talented and could be gay
Never thought about it, not my scene. Mine is blues music and punk rock, not so much dance.
Sexy, Flexible, Sensitive, and Strong.
Lynn Swan was one of the best receivers in football and he took ballet to become more graceful. You can see it when you see highlight reels of him playing for the Pittsburg Steelers - and I doubt seriously that he's gay.
Someone's really, really desperate
well i think they should be pretty fit and fine people. they should have those muscular and toned up bodies. escpecially the upper arms, shoulders and calvess... god.

other than, the question that a lot of people would come up with is their sex orientation. perhaps because the word dance is more oftenly associated more with females and their feminism. and its strange for dominant sex (males) to choose to dive into a softer world.

otherwise, open-minded people wont think negatively. everyone can do everything they want. this is 2006-nearly-2007, its a free country.
Ballet is an art and he is earning a living.
I guess he loves to dance....duh.
I am going to Tip Toe and Dance around this answer - perhaps he is light in the loafers but " there is nothing wrong with it"
I think the gay thing is largely an American thing, in Russia being a male ballet dancer is probably quite respected.
its not nessesarily gay if a man is gifted enough to be a ballet dancer more power too him, i hate stereo types people are too quick to judge.
Baryshnikov was a great ballet dancer, and alot of pro football players have taken ballet to improve their mobility on the field.
nice body and he might be gay but if he walks like he got some sugar in his tank then he's gay, but if not maybe that is a passion of his.
I would question the sexuality of anyone (male or female) who is in the dance/ entertainment field. I'd think that regardless of their sexual orientation, that a man in the ballet would be physically fit, self confident, graceful, coordinated, intune with his feminie side, secure in his manhood, and probably an a** to die for.
Good for him. Another thing... I don't know if it would be as fun to see women lifting women. I think some people might have a problem with that... like, OMG, are they like LESBIANS??

you know what i think? any guy who dances ballet would impress me. and in fact, it should impress every other girl. you know why? coz a guy who dares to admit that he does ballet shows that he's not only sensitive, but proves that he's a guy with guts. despite the fact that ballet is considered very 'gay'-ish to most people, you're a part of only a handful of guys who dare to admit that they do ballet. and I salute you for that. stand up for what you love!! should it matter to you whether or not people think that ballet makes you gay? even if they do, so what? they're the ones who are missing out on the lean muscles, tight butt and charming, slick moves on the dance floor!! so why let something which is their loss, annoy you? besides, from what i hear, guys who dance are generally better in bed!! haha. be proud of what you love. don't make some idiots a barrier to your passion.

I think it's cool. Dancing is art of the body they say. I totally give props to anyone who dances, because I can't! I really want to, and will maybe one day lol. Don't worry about those haters!
I think of the movie BILLY ELLIOT, and what a good feeling it gave anyone who watched it.

It really does not matter one bit what people think of you.

So what if they think you are straight, so what if they think you are gay. It makes no earthly difference to who you are, and must not really affect what you do with your life.

Ballet is a very physical activity that requires you to be as fit as any athlete - it is disciplined and rigorous, and not for the weak or faint-hearted. Not everyone knows this - but who cares? Do what you are good at and what you enjoy. The nice thing is that you will not have great difficulty - if you are good at it - to find a great job with some great people who will appreciate the fact that there is a world shortage of good male ballet dancers. You will find there are a lot of people who know how to separate what you do from your sexuality... they are not really related in the long run.

Are all computer programmers gay?

Are all teachers straight?

There is no such thing as an activity or career that requires a certain sexuality... oh well, okay - you have to be a drag queen in a drag queen show. But wait - in the movie The Adventures of Priscilla, the actors were doing a good job acting like drag queens, but I know for a fact they were not all that way inclined. What does that tell you?

Some of them may have had some people thinking they were - but so what?

But what about the feelings of those who are close to you and about whom you care? Mm - they will get used to it. If they are having difficulty at present with the image of ballet+boys, use the athlete image for a while in order to impress them with the difficulty, the routines, the discipline you must have in order to be the very best ballet dancer you can.

Don't deny anything too strongly - it's not worth it. Let people think what the heck they like. If you are asked a serious question by someone important to you, simply tell them the truth. "I'm straight," - no fuss or bother. It's their problem whether they believe you or not.

And good luck - I envy you your ability... and I'm a girl.

I have left you links to both movies.
I think it's cool, I don't think many guys dance ballet so it makes you unique. =)
naw. youre just the guy with the nice butt %26amp; legs im sure :)
Dancer guys get all the chicks. the ratio is like 30 to 1. my step-mom teaches ballet and the straight guys always have no problem getting ladies. It keeps you in excellent shape and flexibility. (which these other ladies seem to love). here is a link to a movie to prove my point: (i know this isn't realistic but it does prove the point.)

http://youtube.com/watch?v=d9Jz6liH6og%26amp;m...

you should also watch Born to be Wild: Leading Men of The American Ballet Theatre

http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m1...
i mean its no big deal its just unexpected of a straight guy to do that but im open minded and i have heard of a couple straight guys doing it so whatever but you have to that most people will assume your gay thats just how people's minds work
We have guys at my ballet school and we girls just love them to death! they add so much humor to class.
I'm afraid in this society you will most likely get looked on as being gay, even if you're not, especially by people your own age that are male. There are many male dancers, some gay and some straight. I don't think it's gay, I think people that call male dancers gay are sexsist. If it is a girl being something you would call "manly" like a mechanic people would "bag" the girl. Just like in your situation people think that it's "gay" just because you're male. Who cares what they say, if you love it enough it wont matter to you. As long as your friends and family are there it doesn't matter what others say.
i think its hot!

By far Duran Duran. They had a longer career.

duran duran .
Duran Duran without a doubt! They have had more hits and they are still performing today!
As if anyone is going to say Spandau Ballet. They were crapolla.
If those are the only choices, then Duran Duran.
When iwas younger i only liked wham and didn't like either of these but now i would say spandau ballet
Duran Duran, no question.
imo duran duran
Eventhough Spandau Ballet might have the best song between the two - TRUE - Duran Duran hands down.

Duran Duran had better known songs and were more popular. Save A Prayer by Duran Duran is just a hair below Spandau Ballet's TRUE.
Spandau Ballet.....
Duran Duran
Well both bands are so day-before-yesterday's news...but I'd have so day DURAN DURAN! I LOVED THEM!! (back in the day)

Most definately Duran Duran
Duran Duran. Aside from the string of hits, they were pioneers on MTV (back when they actually played VIDEOS) and are still out there performing today.

...I'm just glad you didn't throw "A Flock of Seagulls" into the mix!
i cant answer that there both great
Both bands are excellent and have produced good music.

I don't really understand why you are asking this question. If you enjoy the music of both of the bands then how can you come to the conclusion that one is better than the other?

We all have songs that we enjoy from one group or another - don't make it a competition - just enjoy what they offer!
Between these two, Duran Duran; because, unlike Spandau Ballet, Duran Duran are still together, alive and kicking and cuting albums and hosting gigs.

Not to knock Spandau Ballet, though; they released some truly memorable hits people still sing, such as "True" and of course "Gold", a song which itself turned out to be as "indestructible" as its subject matter.

Always believe in.

People may be reluctant to answer your question. Why not call the dance studio directly and ask them? You could look up their number, call and ask how much do the lessons cost. You can specify your age and experience level to them, and they will tell you.

I don't know, but I'd guess $75. When I used to take lessons from a city's dept of recreation, it was only $20 a month
well i take jazz and hip hop with my sister and my mother pays 900 for 5 months

Your question has no context and so is meaningless. What does $300 buy you? One concert? a whole season (if so, how many performances? who is performing?)?, an ice cream? Any additional benefits from buying the pass (eg name in programme, receptions, dinners)?

Perhaps you need to ask your question fully before you can possibly get a helpful answer.
Well, it depends on who's playing, who's conducting, and what they're playing.

For me, it would have to be a REALLY unique concert opportunity for me to spend $300. But I'm cheap.

Wait, by "pass" do you mean something like season tickets? In that case...well, maybe. Again, who's the orchestra, and what is their schedule for the season?

I'm 17 and have only been dancing for 2 years (not even en pointe yet!), so that seems rather distant for me. When I was 15 though, one of my classmates (who was the same age) had to quit ballet because she had become so flexible that she kept dislocating parts of her body for reasons as trivial as swinging a backpack!

So of course I'd like to know when ballerinas start having problems that force them to quit... looking forward to more answers to your question!

I think you should start stretching your muscles that would help them alot. I had to stop dancing due to two major stomache ops and i started hurting all over. Then I healed up and now Im working out again and my body feels alot better. Altho I wont be able to ever do a back bend again I can still work out.
I started dancing when I was two, doing not only ballet but tap and jazz. I started pointe when I was 10, and I'm 14 now... So I've been dancing for 12 years, but I'm still young enough that the intense training of ballet hasn't taken a toll on my body yet. I'm still doing jazz ballet and pointe, so I know eventually my body's probably going to be screaming at me to stop, but for now I'm enjoying it...

It's crap. The only advantage is for the teachers as they earn the dollars selling you the required clothing, shoes and etc. and feeds your ego while they get rich. The best way to study high quality ballet is to go to teachers whose students have advanced to major professional companies(ask and look for proof). Write to your favorite dancers and ask them where they studied. Stay away from the "organized" ballet "acadamies". If you want to be a ballerina find the pros., take classes at pro studios(usually found in major cities. Getting certificates in "graded" ballet organizations will just slow you down.

What class to choose!? sewing class, art class or ballet class?

Ballet for the body

Art for the mind

Sewing for your creative side - and great for filling your closet with new clothes

What class to choose!? sewing class, art class or ballet class?opera songs opera theater

I would choose the art class.
ballet while in high school, art in your mid twenties, and sewing classes 35 and older... enjoy your youth and dance..
I'm guessing that with your tight schedule it will be harder to get adequate practice for ballet than for art or sewing. Personally, I'd pick sewing (I'm prejudiced, tho - I'm a long-time sewer/quilter), but art would be lovely, too. Good luck - you'll enjoy whatever you choose.
This is going to sound silly, but here goes. If you really don't know what you want, do a round of eenie-meenie-miney-mo. Watch your own reaction. Were you disappointed at what came up? Were you happy about it? Ambivalent maybe? If you were really hoping one of them would come up, that

s the one you should take. Never use this kind of game to determine your choice (don't take art -- or sewing or ballet -- just because it's the one that came up as 'mo') but do use it to see what you're really feeling about things when you're unclear. I do this sometimes, and have generally found it an excellent way to see what I was really wanting when I was unsure.
this is a tough one... *thinks* well, learning to sew is very useful, and just making anything that's appealing is interesting in my opinion, and ballet is very graceful and not many people that i know can dance like that.

it's up to you really, see what suits you best. if you're still confused, and if you can manage it, talk to each of the teachers. or you can take all of the classes during your four year period at high school, doubling the one you like most. *shrugs*
I suggest an art class. You can do a lot with an art class and learn a lot of things. You can teach yourself how to sew and you can also learn from friends. They probably have the same schedule as you so when they are not busy, you are not busy!
With a sewing class you can use that knowledge all of your life.

With your art class if you are very talented you may be able to make money depending if you get the right job.

Ballet can be done by you for only so long and then you may have the possibility of starting your own school.

Choose the one you want for your future

How do you kno if you sickle while dancing(ballet)?

like in a releve and how do you stop if you are

How do you kno if you sickle while dancing(ballet)?concert tickets

I have issues with thinking I'm sickling, but my dance teacher always says I'm not.

The easiest way to find out is to dance infront of somebody who knows what sickling is and ask them if you are. Also, while your dancing just stop in mid dance and look down.

When you do things like tondues (I know horribly spelt wrong) try to push your heel forwards with your toes pulling after. When you do coupee (probably spelt wrong again) and my teacher always tells us our foot should pretty much be wrapped around our calf, with the heel in front and toes behind. Just practice.

How do you kno if you sickle while dancing(ballet)?theater seating opera theater

Really rotate and use your turnout on releve to support your arch's weight between teh 2nd and 3rd toe.
go to a mirror if the toe half of ur foot is turned in or ur heel when you point is lower and it brakes the line then u are sickling also can happen when u rise
if your teacher tells you you're sickling, then pull up and try to go as high in relieve as you possibly can, then higher.

im not sure exactly how to describe sickling, but any dance teacher would. they can help you to get rid of the problem! good luck!!

with love, lillian jean
basically, sickling (my arch enemy, lol, that is in my pecays) is when u turn in ur foot instead of turning it out. so if u are in releve and ur feet are going inward, that means u are sickling. to stop this, practice starting from first position (where ur feet are always turned out) and slowly go up onto releve. if ur feet tend to turn in, try slowly turning them out and hold that position for a while. hope it helps!
in releve if you are sickling, push your weight towards your big toe. and in general in order not to sickle think of trying to move your littletoe outward and stretching the inside of your foot. here is a pic of a sickled foot

http://www.abt.org/education/dictionary/...

the front foot in this pic is a little sickled, you can see the weight is not in the big toe because that side of her shoe is not on the ground.

http://imagecache2.allposters.com/images...

her foot is not sickled

http://www.linns.com/secure/interactive/...

(see how the the arch side of her foot is being stretched?)

check in the mirror often to see how your feet look. and after a while you will start to just naturally not sickle, and it will feel weird when you are sickling.

i hope this helps!
From what I have been told by both dance teacher and dance shoe expert if you sickle then your shoes are not correct for you or the level that you are in.
Sickling is when your foot is turned in instead of out...if you are in a releve you just have to come down and do it again.

What kinds of moves can I put in my ballet dance?

Adagio. A dance designed particularly to enable a ballerina, generally assisted by a male partner, to display her grace, sense of line, and perfect balance. Also a generic term for a series of exercises designed to develop grace, sense of line, and balance.

Arabesque. A pose in which the dancer raises one leg, with the knee straight, directly behind the body.

Attitude. A pose in which the dancer raises one leg directly behind the body with the knee bent at a right angle. The knee is then as high as or higher than the foot, and the foot points to the dancer's side.

Ballerina. A principal woman dancer of a ballet company; prima ballerina, the star dancer.

ballet blanc, or white ballet. A ballet in which the dancing is considered purely classical.

Ballon. The ability to hold a pose in the air.

Barre. A wooden pole, usually fixed horizontally to a wall, that dancers hold for support in certain exercises.

Choreographer. A person who composes ballets or other dances.

Corps de ballet. Those dancers who perform only in the group numbers.

Danseur. A male dancer; premier danseur, the star male dancer.

Danseuse. A female dancer.

Divertissement. A group of short dances inserted in a classical ballet. They usually have little to do with the plot.

Entrechat. A jump in which one feet crosses in front of the other and then behind while the dancer is in the air. Entrechats are numbered from deux to dix (two to ten) according to the number of movements performed, with each crossing of the legs counted as two movements.

Fouett'e. A turn in which the dancer, standing on one foot, uses the other leg in a circular whiplike motion to pull the body.

Jet'e. A jump from one leg to the other; grand jet'e, a great jump.

Maitre de ballet, or ballet master. A person, generally associated with a specific company, who composes ballets and other dances and who is responsible for the training of dancers and the maintenance of their technique.

Pas. A single step or combination of steps forming a dance; pas de deux, a dance for two persons that in classical ballet has an adagio, in which the male dancer supports the ballerina in slow movements; a solo dance for each; and a coda, or ending, in which the couple dance apart and together with all their technical skill.

Pirouette. A complete turn on one foot, with the swing of an arm providing the force.

plie'. A full bending of the knees in any of the five positions. In all positions but second and fourth ouverte the heels will come off the ground; demi-pli'e, a half-bending of the knees without raising the heels off the ground at any time.

Port de bras. A generic term for a group of exercises designed to make the arms move gracefully. The term also refers to any specific movement of the arms.

Love movies.

To Kick_***_...BALLET IS NOT GAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am skinny because I do it! if it weren't for my burning so many calories I'd be FAT! maybe you are because you just don't wanna get up and move around because you're so lazy and you think ballet is gay! I am a girl by the way. For the person who asked this question: I think you should try some modern moves, get a modern teacher/choreographer to help you incorporate it into classical ballet.
Try something different, like a fast, funky beat, but a ballet dance, or something that keeps every one speechless, like anita did in so you thinkyou can dance. But if the music is already chosen then try putting in some of the following:

Divertissement: a short semi part of a dance that sort of have a change of music.

Port de Bras: A graceful set of arm movment often with eiver no or little leg work.

Jetes: Leaps, like Grond jetes(split leaps) and tour Jetes
i think entrechat twas are great in ballet pieces!!!

try some complex jumping phrases,, with low jetes and soubresauts and entrechats...and assembles with brushes it makes it all more interesting.

penches are always pretty ;)

try doing just an intricate motion of body directions flip from croise devant to efface or croise derrierre on the opposite side

hope this helps you!!

I think that would be the sweetest thing you could do for your daughter! You might look a little silly, but who cares? You'll be making you daughter very happy.

Oh Wow! I'd think "What a great Dad!" Single?
DUDE no right on f**k who's watching it's you and your daughter.....at least YOU have the balls to do it!!!!!! RIGHT ON!
no, it would be sweet and loving and look awfully cute. my boyfriend is a tatoo artist and he is 280 lbs and 6ft. 5in. and i would absolutely melt if he did this with out child (which we dont have ).... but it would be so cute. this is your daughter, she would probably love nothing more than to have you there with her having fun.
Yes, but who cares, it's his daughter, Man. I play with my son, I've been Pikachu(don't know how to spell it) and he was Ash.
Not at all.... it's its daughter.... It's called selflessness out of love.
It might look a little funny at first glance, but then I'd think "How sweet is that?"
it might look a little odd, but if this is your best interest for the child then no it won't look odd. if anyone asks say you are doing it for her. in which i am sure u are
I hope you're single, 'cause the chicks would dig it.
You are not ridiculous.

You are the best Dad a little girl could want.

Just keep on being that and don't let anyone tell you other wise.

You got your Father's Day gift the day she was born.

You are a special Dad and she knows it.
I think it's cute it would help many other men who feel that they are 2 macho come to terms that being a dad is wonderful and lots of fun to be had
NOT AT ALL! I THINK IT WOULD MAKE HIM SEXY AND AMAZING! Becareful you don't end up getting picked up by every mom in town... and maybe the teacher!
I have many tattos. I do not beleive that you would look rediculous

taking ballet lessons with your daughter, in fact, I beleive anyone

looking at you spending quality time with your child would view

you as a good father.

People like people who like to learn, regardless of profession

or bike riding status.
No not at all... I think that is very honorable.

(Just keep away from the other 5 year olds, parents might not like that too much. )
no because you are doing something that your daughter likes very much. it makes her happy that she gets to spend time with her father whatever the situation is. but when she turns into a teen that might change. so spend as much time with her as possible. besides, if someone laugh at you, you could beat the living crap out of them and leave them there lying in a pool of their own blood.

NO ONE SHOULD BE LAUGHED AT FOR SPENDING TIME WITH THEIR DAUGHTER/SON/MOM/DAD ETC...........
that would be hilarios HAHAH im sorry but it would
some parent dont care who is around and would do anything for thier child.i would do it if my daughter or son would want to join a ballet class. do it super dad!!!you will show you really love your baby.
Abosolutley not. That would be a memory you will have for the rest of your life. Now would you want that or worry about what you looked like. She's all so old enough were she'll remember
Initially everyone is going to be looking at you. How often does one see the biker tattoo dude doing ballet w/his little girl? Thats awesome! You are a good daddy! Go out there and do your thing, your daughter is going to love you for life! How many little girls have their daddies actively participating like that? ? YOU ROCK! Biker by day, dancer by night! LOVE It!
that is so sweet ! You would always be your daughters hero and she would know how much you love her when she looks back and remembers . GO FOR IT !!!! no one would think anything bad...infact you would gain many women who would admire you for it !!!! If your single your wife would have to smack them off of you :0
No I think you or he is a rill man. The child comes first and only a rill man can do that because he is confident in his manhood so he can do any thing and only be batter for it. I wish there where more rill men in this world. HARAY !!!!!!!! one more
Your daughter will never forget it. And as she gets older she will realize what you did for her. She'll be grown before you know it. I don't think other parents would laugh. Go ahead and do it and have fun. Take pictures even.
Maybe a little, but if you are willing to spend time with your 5 yr old in an activity like this KUDOS to you!!!!Not many daddys left who take an interest at all.Your daughter will have memories(and pics lol)to last a lifetime.God bless.
Yes, you will probably look quite ridiculous... except in the eyes of a very special little five year old girls eyes.

Do you think Rosie Greer cared what people thought of him crocheting? Or Joe Namath cared what people thought about him using panty hose under his game uniform to keep warm? Heck no. A real man is so secure in his own masculinity that he doesn't have to worry about what other people think. He is also able to laugh at himself occasionally.

My step-brother was a hell's angel, in the days when that was a scary word.... and he knitted for relaxation... and I would dare any other biker to go up to him and call him a sissy!!!

Don't let your fears of ridicule stop you from doing something that will mean the world to your little girl. To hell with anyone who can't take a joke!!!!
I THINK ITS SEXY FOR A DUDE TO FIND THINGS IN COMMON WITH HIS DAUGHTER...I THINK ITS A GREAT IDEA
I think that a biker dude taking ballet lessons with his 5 year old daughter would look like a caring FATHER putting his child's wants first. I think that you'd been showing a lot of men how to be MEN! However I wouldn't suggest donning a tutu..lol.
Not at all...........that is love at its grandest. I remember one dad coaching his daughter's soccer team..............their colors were pink and purple and he wore those colors proudly....got teased by a lot of the guys but he said it was all worth it to spend time with his daughter.

I have tickets for a dress rehearsal for the ballet....what is appropriate to wear?

I have tickets for a dress rehearsal for the ballet....what is appropriate to wear?theatre

For a few decades now, dress for fine arts events has been a do-as-you-choose affair. At least in larger cities and major venues, you'll see the range from tuxedo to denim.

Now, in a regular performance, those in the "dress circle" (the front rows of the balcony) have a certain expectation for elegance.

But for a dress rehearsal? Be comfortable. And if anyone looks at you funny, it's their problem. After all, the primary purpose of the audience is to appreciate--not to model.

I have tickets for a dress rehearsal for the ballet....what is appropriate to wear?opera music opera theater

http://www.dancewearsolutions.com/defaul...

Hope it helps :)
slacks and a nice sweater or blouse, skirt, dress...much like you would go out to a nice restaurant for dinner...not fancy theatre dress...some folks will be even more casual, but I've never appreciated that
When you go to a dress rehearsal you still want to look just as good as you woul as if you were to go to the final show. No one will ever tell you if you look too good for an occasion.
Well dress nice, but remember it is a rehearsal which makes it in no way a "black tie affair."

I recommend going more for 'sophisticated' rather than 'classy'. Rather then doing the black strapless dress, open toed heels, shawl, route...just wear nice black pants, black turtleneck and business heels. You want to look artsy, mature, and intelligent, not rich and high class (like you would at an actual ballet.)
I would dress in a simple dress or skirt and sweater to be on the safe side. Solid colors and nice conservative dress shoes with flat or low heels and hosery.Simple jewelry. Nothing austentacious. That way you will not be over dressed or too underdressed and fit in even if it turns out to be pretty casual.

A science fair project that has to do with ballet?

We are starting out science projects soon .. does anyone know of any good experimental questions that would be like easy to research or fun?? Maybe somthing about pointe and turning?

A science fair project that has to do with ballet?chinese theater

If you and your friends wear different brand of ballet slippers you can measure which one is the least slippery. Or maybe you can compare old to new. You will need (a) a bunch of shoes (b) a bag of sand, approx 2 lbs, or 1 kg. (c) a slippery board (d) a protractor.

Place the shoe in question on the board, put the bag of sand on top, start rising one end of the board till the shoe starts slipping down the slope, measure the angle. You can calculate the coefficient of static friction from this.

For a scientific experiment, you should test only one parameter while others remain the same. This is why I suggested to use the same bag of sand for every shoe.

Opening and closing ones arms is a good illustration to the subject of rotational motion, but it's hard to quantify. One reason - you're very much dependent on the "human factor", i.e. on how consistently the person performs a turn. There are too many things that can affect the experiment, including the skill of the dancer.

You can experimentally determine which type of chips (or other type of food) contain more calories. You can compare different groups, too. Like 10 grams of nuts to 10 grams of potato chips. You can make all sorts of diet-related conclusions.

A science fair project that has to do with ballet?opera mini opera theater

Maybe something that has to do with

1. different drinks( Gatorade, water propel) and performance quality.

2. turning properties like (even though the answer is obvious) will u turns better more open or more closed.

3. Or u could poll people about which shoes they like for a psychology project
Maybe something about the physics of turning(pirouettes)? We talked about that in my summer intensive this year.

Or something about balancing or how we manage to stay en pointe and not kill ourselves?
something about how being on pointe before your kneees are ready is good
try turning in differnt types of shoes: pointe,ballet,jazz,socks...etc; and see which makes it easier and gives you the best turns.

Can A Boy Wear Leotard and tights for a Ballet Beginner?

I would say yes on the tights, but not on the leotard. I remember little boys wearing a white t-shirt and black shorts or pants. However, you may just want to ask the dance instructor to see if she has a preference.

My sister Lisa has all four of her daughters in ballet, but she wanted my nephew to join as well. You see there are other mothers who have sons who come to the class but only because they have sisters in the class too.

My sister had my nephew join the class and to everyones surprise, the male doesn't necessarily prance around like the ballerinas. He is there to support the dancer when she has to extend for a certain move so she won't fall over. And yes, he had to wear a black leotard while the girls wore pink ones.

wow uhmm ok? u shouldent of walked in the mud...
first get some soap and water and a rag then pour a hole lot of soap then water and scurb and if u dont want to do this i dont know what else
Let them dry than gently brush.

Try woolite upholstery cleaner
if the mud is dry scrape off as much as you can and then use a wash cloth and some antibactirial hand soap and scrub. will look like new in no time.
Whatever you do don't soap and scrub them, as this will probably dullen the sparkle. Instead wait for the mud to dry then tap it to remove as much as the mud as u can. Then plunge the shoe in water again again(only if the rest is made of plastic and cloth- not leather) and allow the little bits of mud to seperate themselves from the sparkly bits. Then hang it to dry immediatly and do not set it out directly in the sun.
